So week number two in Cheyenne. It has been rather uneventful seeing that I am in the boonies of Wyoming. But that’s okay! Sister Jenks and I try to make everyday fun as we sit in the car for hours on end going from one house to another. Our area is eastern Cheyenne, all the way out to Nebraska. So since we spend a ton of time in the car, Sister Jenks and I have to find creative ways to stay busy while driving. Any ideas??
Basically we walk up and down dirt roads knocking doors, and no one is home. My skirt just blows around in the wind and I feel like a pioneer. My shoes are constantly getting rocks in them which is not super fun, but hey hard work is good right?
Some exciting moments of the week:
We were talking to a woman in a park about the Book of Mormon and in the middle of me inviting her to read it, she flicked her cigarette ashes on me. That was fun.
Since it gets so cold here so fast, people decorate for Christmas super early! (Picture below).
This past Thursday was amazing. We got out of the house a little late, but it was definitely for a reason. We contacted a referral and talked with her for a super long time. She isn't interested in the church, but she would be such a golden investigator. Her husband died a couple of months ago, but she has such strong faith! Anyways she already had a Book of Mormon so we bore testimony of the BOM and challenged her to read it. Our primary program was yesterday and we invited her to come, but her church was also during that time.
After we met a less active named Rodney. Holy cow he is a character. Like the funniest most random guy ever. He breeds racehorses with his daughter (member) and business partner Virginia (non member). We got to meet Virginia and take a tour of her ranch. It is amazing. She is the sweetest kindest woman and she gave me the best mom hug. She’s had tons of missionaries come to her ranch, but we are the first sisters so that’s super exciting. On her ranch, they have something called the "missionary chapel" which is actually just an outhouse that missionaries write their favorite quotes on. The only stipulations: no curse words/bad/inappropriate language and no scriptures. Rodney was like "if she likes you enough, you'll get to put a quote up there too!" Haha we can already tell that Virginia loves us though so that won't be a problem. For our service we get to go help out on her ranch and help with the horses and I'm super excited for that. If I'm still here in February (which is a very real possibility) then we get to be there when the foals are born! How amazing would that be???
And then we taught a less active family and it was so incredibly spiritual. She has such a strong testimony but is so afraid to go back to church. We will get her there though! I love her so much too. She is just real with us. She doesn't sugar coat it and isn't afraid to tell us what her struggles are, so that makes it easier to help her.
We have been teaching a 13 year old girl named Evita. Her momma got baptized in January, but for some reason Evita is scared to be baptized. She reminds me a lot of my sister Sammy, and I think that because I treat her like a sister she is getting more comfortable with us. I really do believe that we can help Evita. She gets bullied at school and so we go over every day after school to make sure she is doing okay.
Yesterday we taught two lessons, both were less active families. We started off both lessons the same way with God is Our Loving Heavenly Father, but the lessons went in completely different ways and it was super cool to see how the spirit guides the lessons.
Alright friends, do me a favor and PLEASE BE NICE TO MISSIONARIES! We are just teenagers who are homesick and serving the Lord! Even if you aren't interested in the church, hear the missionaries out, be nice to them, and tell them they are doing an awesome thing. I promise you it will make their day!!!
Read the Book of Mormon, pray, and be nice to everyone! If you get a chance, you should go onto LDS.org and watch the General Conference Women's Session. It is amazing and super awesome (even if you aren't a member).
I miss you all and hope you have an amazing week!!!
